Ellen J. Moore, a graduate in geology from Oregon State University, received her masters degree in paleontology from the University of Oregon in 1950 followed by further graduate study at Johns Hopkins University. She had a long and productive career with the U.S. Geological Survey, retiring in 1987. Ellen is now a courtesy research associate in Oregon State University. She has written numerous professional papers and several books for general readers, including her most recent one, Fossil Shells from Western Oregon--A Guide to Identification. A current project, with prepublication information available at this website, is a continuation of a series of books on Tertiary Marine Pelecypods of California and Baja California.
