George W. Moore, a graduate of Stanford University, received his doctorate in geology from Yale University in 1960. He is chair of the Arctic Panel of the Circum-Pacific Map Project and is a former president of the Peninsula Geological Society and the National Speleological Society. He retired after a 36 year career from the U.S. Geological Survey and now is courtesy professor of geology in Oregon State University. George devotes the majority of his time to writing and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in geology. He has written many articles and several books on various subjects, including his most recent book in 1997, Speleology--Caves and the Cave Environment, coauthored with Nicholas Sullivan.
